The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an impressive average.
The Australian chair of selectors Bailey has declared that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's Ashes series.
Speculation had been growing that Cummins might be unavailable due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.
Previous updates from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on November 21 in Western Australia.
The selector shared that Cummins is "building up" and remained hopeful about his chances of taking part.
"We know that the clock is ticking and there are permutations around that, not just the back issue, but further aspects," he commented.
"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a major part. Ideally it's the first Test. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
The captain missed the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after scans revealed a lower back issue.
There is a track record of recurring issues, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 leading to absences from three Australian summers in a limited period.
The bowler mentioned he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the series.
The selector indicated that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the first Test.
Contingency Plans
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.
Bailey described it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Considerable effort has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," Bailey explained.
"He was only going to play the initial matches regardless. How he handles the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
